Aim and Objectives

The Purpose of the Project:

In the Report of the Social and Economic Life Development Committee of the year 1979 (S. R. 1980), the committee has seen that many of the youths have come to Shillong to pursue their studies or earn their living and are scattered in different places in Shillong region. With this, the SELDA decided to set up a hostel for all those women who needed a place to stay for their protection with the aim to protect them from all the difficult situation and different temptations. The project also aims to help those women to be spiritually strong and to mold them with a purposeful lifestyle. The project also helps to link those women from different denomination to build a good relationship with the Presyterian Assembly.

The committee had seen that the Synod (Mihngi and Sepngi) were united from the very beginning, and it was then then that the committee urged the Synod to help them to provide a land which was available at the moment which was about 10,000- 20,000 sq.ft (approx.) situated at one of the field in Mission Compound to build a hostel for those women who needed help.

With Gods grace, an opportunity came in which the Government of India was helping in providing Grants upto 75% and the Synod was willing to contribute 25% of its support. Prior, if the Synod had a land to function the Scheme there was no need for them to pay 25% which then made the Executive Committee to call for a meeting on the 8 th April 1980. The Executive Secretary had explained the possibilities of the project and it was then that they decided to start the project with the consent of all the members and came to a conclusion that the Hostel will be constructed in the mentioned land near the Khasi Pnar Academy High School and handed the responsibility to the Trust Association Committee to start the project in building the Hostel.
